The Importance of Friends.

starting an online businessOne of the most satisfying aspects of having an online business is the opportunity to network and to develop long-lasting friendships in the process. This is especially important for marketers who are starting a business from home – Moms with small children, perhaps, people with mobility issues, or those who just don’t want to be out and about.

As an older marketer who retired from a JOB and moved to another country all in the space of a year, I am particularly attuned to the desirability of friends. But to have friends who grasp the issues of working on the internet and who appreciate the benefits of brainstorming, sharing ideas and working collegially, is the icing on the cake.

For a while I had none of these things. My partner with great patience tried, but was unable to fully understand what I needed and my business suffered because of this.

I belonged to several Facebook Groups, but although they were an excellent source of information and were even inspiring from time to time, they did not really cut it when it came to the nitty-gritty.

How did I overcome the problem?

I attended a FREE WORKSHOP.

While the one I attended was organised by a business I had recently partnered with, there are several about.

WHY? What happened?

starting an online businessWell, apart from the 3 full-on days of inspirational coaching by world-renowned marketers, I met a bunch of great people, some of whom actually lived close by (or at least not too far away) and who were looking for exactly the same thing as I was. Someone who understood the frustrations, anxieties and problems of running a business on the internet and more important, ‘got’ the excitement, the exhilaration and the plain satisfaction of internet success.

Co-operation, meetings and new friends who are business partners, are now the order of the day and those who crack remarks about ‘working buried on the computer with only Facebook Friends’ can do the other thing.

There are other ways to do this – join clubs in your niche, advertise in your local paper, search for groups on Facebook or Google+. The list goes on.

For me, however, this was the best way, because I ended up with friends who are working in the same business (or close to it), who are geographically close (so we can easily meet up) and are of the same mind-set. (Very important)
